Why it matters

Pinehurst No. 4 was rebuilt by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw in 2018 on the bones of an older Ross / Fazio / various-hands course. The new design pulls the natural Sandhills wire-grass back into play and shares the strategic DNA of Coore & Crenshaw's Bandon Trails and Sand Valley work. It is the most contemporary of the Pinehurst resort's big courses and the natural complement to a No. 2 round on a multi-day stay.

How to play it

Walking encouraged; caddies available. The resort is the natural stay. Pair with Pinehurst No. 2 (the marquee) and either No. 9 or No. 10 for a three-course resort week — the new No. 10 is the Coore-Crenshaw expansion course that opened in 2024.
