Why it matters

Mid Pines is a Donald Ross 1921 design that Kyle Franz restored to its original 1920s form in 2013 — taking out invasive trees, restoring the wire-grass scrub, and returning the greens to their period contours. It is widely considered the most authentic Ross-era experience available outside of Pinehurst No. 2 itself, and it pairs (literally — same ownership, shared driveway) with Pine Needles next door for a Sandhills two-course day.

How to play it

Walking encouraged with caddies; carts available. 30 minutes from Pinehurst village. The Pine Crest Inn next door is the historic stay. Pair with Pine Needles and Pinehurst No. 2 for a three-course Sandhills classic week.
