Why it matters
Southern Pines Golf Club is a Donald Ross 1906 design that the Pine Needles ownership restored in 2020 with Kyle Franz, opening the corridors and bringing back the period greens. It is the cheapest serious Ross round in the Sandhills, member-feeling, and the rare Pinehurst-area course that is walkable as a default.
How to play it
Walking encouraged; carts available. Five minutes from Mid Pines and Pine Needles. Pair with either of those plus Pinehurst No. 2 for a four-day Sandhills Ross binge.
