Why it matters

Royal Troon's Old Course has hosted the Open Championship ten times, most recently 2024. The 8th hole — "Postage Stamp" — is the shortest hole on the Open rotation at 123 yards and the most-photographed par-3 in the British Isles. The first nine plays generally out with the prevailing wind, the second nine plays back into it; the closing stretch is among the hardest in major championship golf.

How to play it

Walking only. Book through the club six months out — visitor times are limited but real. Glasgow Prestwick airport is 10 minutes. Pair with Prestwick or Turnberry on a 3-4 course Ayrshire week.
