Why it matters

Oitavos Dunes opened in 2001 above the Atlantic west of Cascais — Arthur Hills' standout European design, with holes that climb through umbrella pines and drop into seaside dunes. It is the most-consistent European top-100 entry from Portugal and the obvious anchor of any Lisbon-coast golf trip. The Sintra mountains rise behind the back nine.

How to play it

Cart standard. 30 minutes west of Lisbon airport (LIS). Pair with Penha Longa (Sintra) or West Cliffs (Silver Coast) for a Lisbon-coast two-or-three-course trip. The Cascais beach town is the natural stay.
