Why it matters

Enniscrone is a links of huge, untamed dunes on the Sligo coast that the rest of the world has not yet noticed. Eddie Hackett laid out the modern routing in 1973, Donald Steel expanded it in 2001, and the Dunes Nine that was added gives the course one of the biggest links footprints in Ireland. The clubhouse looks out at Killala Bay and the mountains of Mayo on the horizon.

How to play it

Walking only and walkable. Two hours by car from Knock airport (NOC) or Shannon. Pair with County Sligo (Rosses Point) 40 minutes north for an Atlantic-coast two-course day. Cheaper than the marquee names and far easier to land a tee time.
