Why it matters

Sky Mountain is a municipal course laid against the red cliffs of Zion National Park's western edge, and the views from the back nine are among the best you can pay $30-50 for anywhere in the United States. It's short (under 6,500 yards from the tips), walkable in 3.5 hours, and the right answer when the rest of the group wants to chase scenery without the championship-track stress.

How to play it

Walking encouraged — the routing is tight and the elevation change is moderate. A great late-afternoon round when the cliffs catch the light. Pair with a Zion drive-through the next morning.
