Why it matters
Routed parallel to the Old Course on the same stretch of Fife coast, the New is what St Andrews locals quietly play when they want a real round. It dates to 1895, was laid out by Old Tom Morris, and is firmer, narrower, and more wind-exposed than the Old — there's no 17th-hole hotel between you and the sea. Visitors who pay the Old Course money and then add a New round consistently rate it the better golf, if not the better experience.
How to play it
Walking only and walkable. Tee times are issued through the St Andrews Links Trust ballot system — easier to land than the Old, but book six months out for summer. Plays well as the next-day rebound after the Old Course or as the warm-up the day before. Pair with a Jubilee round for a New-Jubilee 36-hole day from the same clubhouse.
