Why it matters

Lawsonia Links is a 1930 William Langford and Theodore Moreau design in central Wisconsin — flat, walkable, with the architects' trademark square greens and vertical bunker edges. It was nearly forgotten for decades and rediscovered by the architecture community in the 2010s; it now appears on most "underrated US courses" lists and is the rare classic Midwest course that has not been over-renovated. The Phantom Course (next door) is a softer Rocky Roquemore second-day play.

How to play it

Walking encouraged with caddies; carts available. Two hours from Milwaukee and 90 minutes from Green Bay airport. Pair with Sand Valley (90 minutes west) for a Wisconsin two-resort week, or with Whistling Straits 90 minutes east.
