Why it matters
Gullane No. 1 is the championship course of the three Gullane links that share a hill above the Firth of Forth. It has hosted the Scottish Open multiple times, runs over rumpled, fast-firm fairways, and on a clear day gives you Edinburgh on the southern horizon. Next door to Muirfield; you do not need a member to play it.
How to play it
Walking only and walkable, though the hill makes the first nine more work than the second. Bookable directly with the club. Pair with Muirfield (advance application required, Tuesdays / Thursdays only for visitors) or with No. 2 / No. 3 for a Gullane day. Edinburgh is a 30-minute train ride.
