Why it matters
Del Monte opened in 1897 and is the oldest continuously operating course west of the Mississippi. It's owned by Pebble Beach Co., so the conditioning matches its more famous siblings, but the rate is a fraction of Pebble or Spyglass. The routing weaves through old Monterey neighborhoods with tree-lined corridors and small, sloping greens — closer in feel to an East Coast Donald Ross design than a coastal links.
