Why it matters

Anstruther is a 9-hole cliff-top course on the East Neuk coast, with a 5th hole — the Rockies — that crosses a slot of sea and ranks among the most-photographed par-3s in the country. Founded 1890, it costs a fraction of the Old Course and is finishable in under two hours. Pair with the Anstruther fish bar in the village (regularly voted UK's best fish and chips) for the kind of golf day you remember.

How to play it

Walking only and walkable. Bookable directly with the club; mid-morning slots are usually available. Pair with Crail Balcomie or Elie for an East Neuk three-course day, or as a casual second loop after a St Andrews morning. Cheap enough that two loops is the standard play.
